About Loadingout

Loadingout helps you keep track of the things you carry. It shows three things:

  • What you own.
  • Where each thing is.
  • What needs attention before you go.

Your kit

A kit is one set of gear. It holds:

  • Items. One item is one thing you own. It has a name. It can have one category, like Tech or First aid.
  • Bags. A bag holds items. A bag can say how many of an item it holds. For example, Socks × 2.
  • Loadouts. A loadout is a group of bags that go out together.
  • Notes. You can write a note on an item, a bag, a loadout, and on the whole kit. A note is for whoever opens the kit. The kit's note shows first. Write it in Setup.

One item can be in many bags. It is still one item. Rename it once, and the name changes everywhere.

No two items can have the same name.

A new kit is empty. You add the first thing.

Deleting an item removes it from every bag. Deleting a bag keeps its items in the kit. Deleting a loadout keeps its bags. If a delete affects something else, Loadingout asks first.

Loadingout keeps only names of things and the notes you write. It does not keep prices, photos or history. It does not ask anything about you.

Needs attention

Turn on Needs attention when an item is low, broken, expired, lent out or missing. The mark shows in every bag and loadout that holds the item. Turn it off once, and it is gone everywhere.

A loadout counts each item once, even if two of its bags hold it.

Save online and links

A new kit lives only on this device. Its row on Kits says Not saved online.

Press Save online to put the kit online. Then you get two links:

  • The owner link. Anyone with it can see and edit the kit.
  • The viewer link. Anyone with it can see the kit, but not change it.

The link is the key. There is no login and no password. Anyone who has a link can open the kit. If you share a link, you share that access.

Open a link on any device, and the kit appears there too. Changes sync between all devices that have the link. Loadingout also works offline. It shows the copy on your device and sends your changes later. If two people change the same thing, the last change wins.

Backup files

A backup file is a copy of your kit, saved on your device. Loadingout never sees it and keeps no copy.

In Setup:

  • Export backup file saves your kit as a file.
  • Load a file replaces this kit with the file. Loadingout tells you what will change and asks first.

On Kits, New kit has From a backup file. It makes a new kit from the file. Your other kits stay as they are.

A file is not a link. A link shows your kit live. A file is a copy. Someone who loads your file gets their own copy. What they do with it does not change your kit.

Kits on this device

Kits, at the top of every page, lists every kit on this device. Open one to switch to it, save it online, share it, or remove it.

Remove from this device removes a kit from this device only. The kit still exists for anyone who has its link. To clear everything from a device, remove the kits one by one, or use the control on the Terms of use page, linked at the bottom of every page.

Keep your owner links somewhere safe before you remove a kit. Without the link, you cannot open the kit again.

Featured

Featured, at the top of every page, shows kits made by people who know their field. Open one, and it comes to this device as a viewer kit. You can look, but not change it.

Important limits

  • A kit is destroyed after 60 days without use. Use means the owner opens it, or Loadingout is opened on a device that keeps it as owner: every owner kit kept on that device counts, opened or not. Viewing it does not count. Backup files are not affected.
  • A link cannot be taken back. If a link gets out, make a new kit from a backup file and share new links.
  • A viewer link cannot become an owner link. An owner link cannot be limited.
  • Nothing records who changed what.
  • A lost link cannot be found again. A backup file is a copy. It does not open the online kit.
  • Your browser keeps a history of the pages you open. Loadingout cannot delete that history.
  • A kit has a size limit. It is large: a full kit of 500 items fits. A change that would pass the limit is not kept, and the screen says how full the kit would be.
